King Once Again Disgraces Iowa

republican-gun-rhetoric-300x300

The most covered story of the week is yet another mass shooting in America, but this one gets coverage because a congressman was shot. That wasn’t even the worst mass shooting of the day. America today is so awash in guns and gun violence that a mass shooting killing four people barely rates a mention anymore.

However, since the other mass shooting of the day involved a congressman it rated lots of stories and chatter. Suddenly the body that has spent decades with its head buried in the sand concerning gun violence had one of its chickens come home to roost and it didn’t like it. Actually we should half of congress has ignored the gun violence.

Of the millions of words that gushed forth Wednesday and beyond few were as rancorous and devoid of any scintilla of truth as Steve King’s statement that much of the blame for this shooting belong’s to {drumroll} Barack Obama.

You may wonder where Mr. King’s convoluted logic comes up with such a conclusion. Remember that President Obama worked his rear end off to do something, anything to stem in some way the gun violence in this country. Who can forget Barack Obama after the horrid, horrid Sandy Hook shootings?

So here is King’s logic if you can stomach it:

“I do want to put some of this at the feet of Barack Obama,” said King. “He contributed mightily to dividing us. He focused on our differences rather than our things that unify us. And this is some of the fruits of that labor.”

Conway didn’t exactly protest.

“Of course he also spent eight years telling us all how terrible we all are and what a garbage can America was and how unexceptional we all were,” said the British-born Conway. “I agree. I absolutely agree with what you said.”

Got to ask what world these people live in. Please join us in the real world where people who should never have had guns daily shoot other Americans over the smallest slights.

By the way, as you can see from graphic above, Joni Ernst had no problem using guns against the government at the NRA in 2012:

Meanwhile the senate continued to work on the health care bill as quietly as they would work on a top secret war project. That is because it is in its own way a top secret war project in their war on the poor and middle class and for their side, the rich and the corporations.
Based on the video above Ernst is ready to blow it away!

From what Americans can find out about this bill millions upon millions will lose their healthcare. Even if you get to keep health insurance, the premiums and deductibles will probably skyrocket. All this will lead to inevitable bankruptcies and early death. Not as quick as gun violence, but effective in its own way.

The wealthiest Americans including Donald Trump will expect a major windfall in lower taxes due to the repeal of the ACA.

I hope you can attend one or more of these events. If you want me to appear at an event, or if you want a list of ideas for the Summer of Citizenship, please email me at SenatorRobHogg@gmail.com. Some key ideas are:

Join your local Democratic party or advocacy group
Register people to vote
Get to know our Democratic candidates for office
Organize a study group, education program, or service project in your community
Invite people to contribute financially to the party, candidates, and advocacy groups
Speak up with elected officials and staff in person, by phone call, by mail, and in public

Remember: The answer to our problems – with the President and Congress in Washington, D.C., and the Administration and Legislature in Des Moines – is a renewed spirit of citizenship.

Thanks for your work as a citizen. Together, we can have the biggest political comeback in Iowa history.

Rob

Right Wing Radio Host Michael Savage Wants Government Takeover Of Media

Image (1) AAAAShockjocks.jpg for post 3526Related: Naomi Klein’s “The Shock Doctrine”

Mediamatters.org

Right-wing radio host Michael Savage called for a government takeover of media following a shooting at a baseball practice of Republican members of Congress.  [Note from BFIA: Savage is broadcast 2 hours a day, 5 days a week in Iowa on KCPS Burlington.  If you live in the KCPS broadcast area, you can contact the station at 319-753-5277.]

Five people, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), were wounded during baseball practice in Alexandria, VA. The assailant, “identified by multiple law enforcement officials as James T. Hodgkinson II,” was killed by police after they exchanged gunfire.

Responding to the shooting, Savage questioned whether Trump should “take control of Twitter” and asked, “Is it time for the government to take control of the out-of-control pirates on social media … who do not monitor left-wing haters?” He also advocated for removing Rachel Maddow and others from the airwaves by the federal government, citing “their constant drumbeat of their hatred against Trump and Republicans, calling for, among other things, resistance with their sneers every night.”

Savage later argued that CNN and MSNBC were “practicing a silent form of jihad against America” and demanded that Republicans “call a hearing a make the heads of CNN and MSNBC answer to them as to what they are doing to curtail the sneering hatred of Rachel Madcow (sic) in particular.”

Savage concluded his tirade by warning that the violence created by the media’s “jihad” “is only the beginning,” arguing that the shooter was inspired to violence by “the hatred for Republicans and Trump” of the media.

Trump “Cabinet Meeting” Was Fake To The Nth Degree

Image (2) nixon-on-tv-150x150.jpg for post 26599

Here’s what the media said about Trump’s “cabinet meeting” where they went around the room making up huge lies about how awesome Trump is, etc.

“weird” CNN

“pathetic, shameful, unAmerican”  Twitter

“awkward” CNBC

“embarassing” Axelrod

“strokefest” Colbert

“sick” Morning Joe

“really weird” Newsweek

The sole purpose of  this display was not as everyone in the media claims, to make Donald feel more secure because he is a narcissist, which he is, but that’s not why they did this.  Watch the clip again.  The comments seem scripted and rehearsed and contain effective but fake messages to voters like how much Trump cares about workers. This was an info-mercial designed to reassure the brainwashed Trump voters that might be waivering in their loyalty, that there is no need to waiver in their support of Trump, despite the Russia investigation closing in because hey, just look at all these rich important powerful white guys sitting in the White House, agreeing with you and praising King Trump! The liberal media is lying! Only listen to Trump because he is the only one telling you the truth.

This was tax-payer funded FAKE NEWS.  And as usual, the media fell for it.

Quick Observations On Senate Intelligence Hearings

Ever wonder why the Constitution enshrined civilian control over the military? Watching Admiral Rogers Wednesday and hearing the exploits of General Flynn over the past several months makes it pretty clear. With guys like these on our side we are lucky the military hasn’t turned on us.

Ever wonder why Freedom of The Press is the very first enumerated freedom in the Bill of Rights? Were it not for the free press you can fairly well bet there would be no hearings on what continues to smell of treasonous actions during the last election.

As a subset of that, since much of our major media has been subsumed by corporations over the past 40 years and has thus been neutered in their main job of being watchdogs on government. Thinking of that we become quite aware of why closing down the one truly free media where citizen journalists can expose government shenanigans – the internet – is so crucial to those who have power.

Much of the information that we have concerning what has transpired has come to us through blogs and independent journalists. The current FCC and its leader Ajit Pai desperately want toe top that in its tracks.

I have come to the conclusion that Donald Trump has no concept of right and wrong. there is no moral compass at all. Right is what a person can get away with and wrong is those who try to stop him.

Kamala Harris – keep it up!

Finally, John McCain – please retire and quit embarrassing the country and your state.

Kim Reynolds: Rubbing Our Noses In It Right Off The Bat

gov-terry-branstad_lt-gov-kim-reynolds.jpg

The king is in China, but little will change

Over at bleedingheartland.com, desmoinesdem does a great analysis of the hypocrisy of the Kim Reynolds inauguration speech after Reynold’s swearing in on May 24th.

This is an excellent read and well worth the 15 minutes or so it will take to read it. A simple summary might go something like this:

‘I am here to claim that I will work to improve the lot of workers and students in Iowa, that I will solve the health care problems and help to give our citizens a second chance. But please don’t look at my record because you can easily see I don’t mean it.’

Just to throw a little salt in the wound, Reynolds then goes flying to events around the state in a jet owned by mega donor Gary Kirke. According to radioiowa, Kirke is seeking a state license for a new gambling casino in Cedar Rapids.

Reynolds claims she has no input on the license and that she checked with the ethics board twice to make sure use of the plane did not violate ethics rules.

That is all well and good. Maybe there is no ethics violations. But it surely doesn’t pass the smell test. This one stinks like a CAFO in a summer heat wave.

Reynolds words say she is for the common Iowan. Reynolds actions show she will be the governor for the wealthy and well connected. Iowa already has way too many politicians like that. Let’s make her stay in Terrace Hill a short one.

Sunday Funday: Hot Hoax Edition

As you sit sweltering in your underwear, running up an electric bill that you may need to take out a loan to pay, remember the words of our current leadership: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive.”

So neener-neener hot weather – you are a hoax! But you feel sort of real!

It is getting so hard to keep up any more.
