Email from Matt Sinovic with Progress Iowa:
|Dave– we just sent out the press release below — Joni Ernst is now one of the 10 most unpopular Senators in the country, according to new polling released today from Morning Consult.
Only 39 percent of Iowans approve of Ernst, down 9 percent from the last survey. That’s the biggest drop of any Senator in the U.S. And it’s pretty easy to see why. In the last few months, here is what Ernst has been up to:
•Said she wants to cut a Social Security deal behind closed doors, away from public scrutiny
•Admitted to voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act, putting nearly 1.3 million Iowans with pre-existing conditions at risk of losing health care
•She refused to say whether foreign interference in our elections is a bad idea (it obviously is)
•And she’s doing this while raking in campaign donations from special interest groups
We’ll keep holding her feet to the fire, working with our hardworking volunteers and alongside terrific partner organizations all over the state.
I hope you’ll join us and make a donation today, because we deserve far better from our Senator.
Thanks for all you do,
Executive Director, Progress Iowa
Ernst’s approval dropped by more than any other Senator — only 39 percent of Iowans approve of the job Ernst is doing
(DES MOINES, IOWA October 17, 2019) After a series of tough town hall appearances facing questions about health care and impeachment, Senator Joni Ernst is reeling in a new poll of Iowa voters that shows she’s among the 10 most unpopular Senators in the country.
Morning Consult’s most recent quarterly approval ratings for U.S. Senators shows that Ernst’s approval rating dropped by nine percentage points, falling to just thirty nine percent approval compared to forty three percent disapproval. That was the largest decline in approval rating among any Senator in the country. Today’s poll comes on the heels of a series of contentious town hall meetings where Ernst faced tough questions from Iowans about her stances on health care, social security, and whether she believes President Trump is above the law.
Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement in response to today’s polling:
“Joni Ernst has told us she wants to make closed door decisions about Social Security. She won’t say if foreign interference in American elections is a bad idea. She openly admitted to voting for removing healthcare from Iowa families. And she continues to take in millions from special interest groups. It should be no surprise that Iowans don’t approve of the job she’s doing. We deserve better and Ernst deserves to be held accountable for selling us out.”

Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, who has already faced a cascade of negative advertising, saw a drop of 9 percentage points — the biggest decline in net approval for any senator. The slide places her underwater with Iowa voters (39 percent approve and 43 percent disapprove) for the first time and among the 10 most unpopular senators in the country.
Iowa voters of all partisan leanings soured on the first-term senator, but GOP voters were most likely to take a dimmer view of her job performance. Her net approval dropped by 13 points among Republicans, compared with respective 9- and 7-point drops among Democrats and independents.
Progress Iowa is a multi-issue progressive advocacy organization with a network of more than 75,000 progressives, who will continue to hold Senator Ernst accountable for selling out to special interests and leaving Iowans behind. Year-round, Progress Iowa advocates for a stronger middle class, first-class public education, and fairness for all Iowans under the law.
Let me add that Ernst’s constituency is not Iowans nor citizens of the US. Her constituency is the Koch family and Donald Trump.
