Biden delivers economic address in South Carolina (28 minutes)
Gets pretty monotonous doesn’t it? Every month there are a series of economic reports that take the temperature of the of the nation’s economic health. Since becoming President, Biden has faced down crisis after crisis with a steady hand on the tiller guiding a soaring US economy as other world economy falter.
Coming into office, the President faced a horrific mess left by the previous administration after the purposeful inept management of the pandemic crisis that left the economy in a state of disaster. Just to add to the problem the previous administration refuse to share vital economic information in an attempt to make the incoming Biden administration fail.
Yet President Biden guided by policies and norms from previous Democratic administrations took on the challenges in an orderly manner and continues to come to positive outcomes in nearly all cases. He had to start with taming the pandemic, no easy task considering the mess he was left.
From there, Biden’s administration has taken on supply chain issues, law wages, and of course an ongoing stubborn inflation that is in the process of being tamed. Friday we got news that Biden’s economy again created a good 209,000 jobs. This would be a great number for any other president and really high for a Republican. Biden’s economy has been so robust that to some this very good number was a little disappointing.
We have to temper this report with the fact that the Federal Reserve and Jerome Powell are actively enacting policies to stop growth in order to stop inflation.
In the first 2 years and 5 months the Biden administration has created an incredible, eye popping 13 million jobs, most of them good paying jobs. Unemployment is at a 50 year low. Considering the shambles that the Trump administration left the economy in, that is an incredible number.
We are seeing industries bringing manufacturing back home to America and also seeing foreign companies investing in America. The amount of money coming back into the country in the form of new manufacturing is incredible. And the pace is picking up. We see Republicans who voted against every Biden initiative clawing to take credit for what Biden’s initiative are doing, including Iowa’s representative.
This is a great story, a truly historic story. It is too bad that Americans are not hearing this story. America’s news media that is in the grip of the far right wing corporations seldom says tells the true story of this incredible recovery. Because of that many Americans have a negative view of the economy even though they have not been such good shape since the beginning of Reaganomics.
President Biden has reoriented the economy to “build from the bottom up and the middle out.” This has always been the Democratic playbook because that is simply the best, most solid and most equitable to build the economy. It worked under President Franklin Roosevelt, President Kennedy, president Johnson, President Carter, President Clinton, President Obama and now is going bonkers under President Biden.
Of course it hasn’t been too hard for Democrats to look good after Republicans from Nixon to Reagan to Bush, Bush and Trump have left the economy in some form of a shambles with most of the economic reward going to the extremely wealthy at the top as those wealthy pay little or nothing in in taxes.
Once again, Americans can sleep soundly knowing that the man guiding the economy knows what he is doing, and that this man is not a puppet of corporations but a man of the people who puts them first.
If ever a man has earned a second term it is Joe Biden. We surely do not want to go back to the top down ruins of Republican economics.
