Most of us have experience with a relative who has come to visit, then way overstayed their welcome. Either through the mooching or using the car too much or drinking your personal stash of liquor, the relative’s little habits eventually drive us over a wall.
Well it finally looks like Iowans are getting pretty tired of cousin Terry hanging around, telling his tall tales about jobs that don’t exist, taking extra pay out of the till, forcing us to pay more than other states for the same medicaid because of his ‘pride.’ Oh he’s done lots of things this time around. We got tired of him a decade ago and he went home. But we stupidly invited him back. Now we realize it was a mistake. Once again most Iowans have decided that old cousin Terry has stayed too long.
Pushing The Country Right
With Liz Cheney challenging Mike Enzi in Wyoming caused me to think that this is how Republicans have drug the country to the right. First Republicans drug their own party to the right through the primary process. It seems the crazier right wing is the one that gets the votes in Republican primaries anymore. Primaries generally attract the most loyal of party voters. In Republican circles that equates to the most right wing. Thus those with what used to be moderate views have lost in the primaries consistently.
That and a very compliant media that makes it seem like the ravings of the ultra conservative crazies is normal. Americans like to be part of what’s happenin’ so they follow the leader as presented by the media. Thus the media in general and Fox News in particular report in such a way as to make people think that what used to be the middle is now way left and right wing thinking is now in the middle.
Mike Enzi is far right wing himself. Should Liz Cheney defeat him, it drags the Republican Party further right. The media reports as if this is now the new center. It isn’t folks. The center is still back at one payer health care that includes women’s health, good jobs with good benefits in our country, fixing the infrastructure, educating our kids, and paying for it with taxes on the wealthy and corporations. It is way past time to send the Cheneys and the Enzis of the world packing.
BTW Liz ………
My guess is that your focus is not Wyoming especially since you barely discovered it exists. No I am guessing your focus is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. One thing a Cheney is not short on is ego.
Detroit Goes Bankrupt
Couple of things on this. For one thing, Detroit is the anchor of what used to be a pretty prosperous region. It looks like the corporations have extracted every last ounce of gold they can and then left it for dead. My feeling is that the prosperous suburbs would want to help save the area lest the prosperous suburbs eventually fall victim to the same blight.
The other thought is that Republicans made sure that there was a poison pill in the property tax bill in iowa that gave breaks to the Walmarts of the world while starving the cities and towns of Iowa. I don’t believe we have any cities in desperate shape in Iowa yet, we have had the path laid out that could lead there. As Naomi Klein talked about in “Shock Doctrine” the path for a problem has been set up. I can bet the Republicans already have solutions ready to go that include a lot of privatizing and purchase of public goods for a nickel on a dollar.
The New Fashion For Women In Dental Offices in Iowa
Thanks can be sent to The Iowa Supreme Court. After all, we can’t expect the men to control themselves now, can we?

This quote is making the rounds about Liz Cheney, “Perhaps the Republican Party needs to hit rock bottom and Liz Cheney is the last shot of rail tequila before the conservative movement blacks out, wakes up and heads to a meeting.”
