Reaganomics Explained And Other Observations

What is most distressing is that since Reagan, we continue to have large number of voters vote totally opposite of their own good by voting for Republicans that rob us blind, cut off any social safety nets and make government largely ineffective. I wish I knew how we could get the message across to these folks that a Republican will only help you out if you are in the upper 1%. But if you are a member of the 99%, you need to vote for Democrats and then keep on them to do what they say they will. But voting Republicans is cutting off your nose to spite your face literally.

JFK discusses being a liberal
JFK was proud to be a liberal at a time when being a liberal was under attack by the right – some things never change. This was the era after McCarthyism, yet the baloney connection between communism and liberalism was being exploited by the likes of Dick Nixon. Kennedy addressed this issue in accepting the nomination of the New York Liberal Party, Sept. 14, 1960: Here is an excerpt:
“What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label “Liberal?” If by “Liberal” they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer’s dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of “Liberal.” But if by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.”

Well looky here – industry claims this doesn’t exist, but just in case you are ever in a strike or a lockout this may help you prepare.

Food for serious thought
While we watch the silly season of politics progress apace, really important things like the potential end to our food supply goes nearly unreported. As many of you know, Monsanto’s Round-up Ready genetically modified corn has been implicated in Colony Collapse Disease which has wiped out huge number of bees around the world. Poland has banned the use of Monsanto GM corn. Without bees, pollination doesn’t happen. Without pollination, food doesn’t happen.
So Monsanto bought the company that did the research. Anybody want to bet me that the research will change in the very near future?

Republicans continue to block agency that could lower gas prices dramatically.
Part of the Dodd-Frank bill that reformed Wall Street included a section to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). However, Republican obstruction has been able to keep this bureau unfunded and thus uneffective since its conception. One of the effects of this tactic has been to continue to allow undue commodity speculation, especially in oil. Well, take a minute and read here how you could possibly be paying up to 40% less – I’ll let you do the calculation.

Another company leaves ALEC – Keep up the good work.
YUM! brands announced Thursday that they would leave ALEC, the 12th company to do so. While that may seem like a lot, it is only a trickle when you look at the total number of corporations that fund ALEC.
If you can, find companies that you actually do business with, get on their websites and tell them you will take your business elsewhere if they stay in ALEC. I have done this to half a dozen companies, some of which have dropped already.
Nobody will know you are pissed off unless you tell them.

Come November, Women Will Remember!
As will sons of mothers, husbands of wives and fathers of daughters.
How dare the Republicans treat women as less than second-class citizens?

Did you know Sen. Chuck Grassley is retaliating for ALEC’s fall, by urging people to boycott a large IA employer, Coca-Cola? See!/ChuckGrassley/status/193880610362753025
