We received a scorecard in the mail from the ACLU of Iowa rating Iowa’s legislative members’ votes on issues that the ACLU deemed important concerning civil liberties.
Since most of the legislature is running for their respective seats, this scorecard can be used as yet another tool in selecting a candidate to vote for in the coming election.
My family generally agrees with the ACLU positions feeling that guarding our civil liberties is easier than trying to get them restored after they have been rescinded. Getting civil liberties restored is nearly impossible.
So click on the link and take a look at the ACLU’s scorecard and perhaps use this as part of your evaluation.
In my district our current representatives are rated extremely low. That is a situation we hope our votes will help correct. After all, Iowa’s state motto is very clear in how early leaders of the state felt about our civil liberties:
“Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.”
