What Is The Best Way To Stand Up To The NRA?

momentum builds
Following the murders on campuses and schools the past few weeks and after the cold blooded cop killing carried out in Nevada we have finally decided to move to join some organization to add our voices against the rampant gun violence in this country. One of the biggest problems we have been having is to decide which organization is the most effective.

There are I do not know how many organizations out there trying to battle the NRA. So the opposition is quite scattered. While having many groups is often a good thing, in this case it splinters and diffuses the opposition. This also makes the number of opponents seem smaller than it truly is. It seems to me that we need to find one vehicle to ride for second amendment sanity.

Based on the above, we signed up for Moms Demand Action for gun sense in America. Our feeling that Moms Demand Action is the kind of grass roots efforts that scares the bejeezus out of the power elite. One of the main strategies for a power elite is to keep opposition at odds with each other. This keeps us fighting for scraps while they eat the main course. A scattered opposition equals no political power. But a focused opposition equals a movement.

Moms Demand Action got nationwide attention when they got the attention of the NRA just by having a meeting in a Denny’s Restaurant in Texas. Apparently a bunch of gun-toting he-men were scared to death by a few women meeting together to talk.

Well we (my wife and I) are picking Moms Demand Action as the vehicle that can bring this country to sense on the second amendment. We have children and grandchildren. I can not even imagine what kind of terror it invokes in a parent to hear that your child’s school or place of work has been taken over by some crazed gunman. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have to wait hours to find out if your child survived. I can’t imagine the absolute feeling of desperation to find out that your child died, let alone because some crazed person was able to easily get their hands on a weapon of death and destruction so powerful as a gun, any gun.

One reason we chose to back John Edwards in 2008 was because he was the only one who seemed to understand that those who have power in this country (and believe me it is not people) will not give it up willingly. The NRA is simply the lobbying arm of the NRA. Their job is to sell guns so their sponsor, the gun industry, can make maximum profit. Dead children, dead policemen, a citizenry in fear are just collateral damage to them. We need to focus and bring sanity back to America.

Can anyone truly believe that our founding fathers wanted a country armed to the teeth ready to kill their countryman on a whim?
