Dave Loebsack Wants to Make it in Iowa

Washington, D.C.

May 6, 2011

Dear Constituent:

Last week, I completed my Make It In Iowa tour through the Second District.  This tour allowed me to meet with many employers, small businesses, and hardworking Iowans throughout the Second District. I was proud to visit innovative companies in Coralville, Marion, Muscatine, Wapello, West Burlington, Mount Pleasant, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Washington, Fairfield, Ottumwa, Centerville, Corydon, and Winfield.

At every one of these companies I was amazed by the ingenuity of their business as well as their drive to support the growth of Iowa’s economy.  I heard many different ideas and will work to ensure Congress understands the needs and suggestions of Iowa’s businesses and employees about what is needed to get our economy back on track and create jobs for Iowans.

This week, I took the first step to help move the country forward for Iowa businesses by supporting the introduction of an important legislative agenda entitled the “Make It In America” agenda. I am proud this also includes my bipartisan legislation, the SECTORS Act (H.R. 1240) that will retool and retrain America’s workforce for the jobs of tomorrow. This agenda will support job creation today and in the future by helping businesses make products and innovate in the US, sell their products and compete in the world through strengthening exports and trade policy, and supporting key infrastructure and other vital areas like manufacturing, research and development, education, and energy.

In addition, the agenda includes proposals that would strengthen our nation’s competitiveness by increasing incentives to create jobs like making our state-of-the-art wind turbines and solar panels, revamping and improving our nation’s workforce development and training system, creating for the first time a strategic national manufacturing plan, address nations that are manipulating their currency and tackle our nation’s growing trade deficit, reauthorize our transportation programs and create a National Infrastructure Bank, and reform America’s corporate tax code.

Iowa already offers great resources for new business and a highly qualified and educated workforce.  This “Make It In America” competitiveness agenda would help us compete in the 21st Century and support further job creation. Going forward, I will continue my work to advance these proposals and meet with Iowa’s small and large businesses and workforce to ensure we can best attract new business to Iowa and help the great businesses we have already grow even more.  Thank you for your time and I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Dave Loebsack
