Your Iowa Legislative Forums

Your Iowa Legislative Forums

by Dave Bradley

This is one fight where we need every one.

When the legislature is in session most legislators take part in what are known as legislative forums. This gives the legislators a chance to visit with local folks to see what is on their minds.

Forums are being held this weekend and you can find future dates and locations here:  http://iowademocrats.org/forumlist/

Seems to me this would be an excellent opportunity for those of us who are very upset about the attempt to strip collective bargaining rights from unions to be heard.

The attempt to break unions is not a Wisconsin thing only. It's happening in Iowa, too.  There is a movement across the country whereever Republicans are in charge to break public unions. Private company unions have pretty much been broken.

Working folks, union or not, need to let their legislators know in no uncertain terms, that breaking unions is not what they were elected to do. A show of strength is needed.

I can guarantee that the rich will have their people out to push legislators harder to break the unions. If we don’t show up, we concede this battle.

Remember the town halls during the health care fight? I would not want us to act anything like the right wing crazies, but we need to show up and be heard.

And don’t go by yourself – take a carload. Gas is expensive again now that Republicans have some semblance of power.

Here is the only list I could find of forum times and places. This lists Democrats only. If you have only republican legislators you will probably need to call their office to find the times and places.
