Big Oil and the Senate
Don't let Big Oil rewrite the Energy Bill
Seven votes in the Senate and Big Oil. That's all that's standing in
the way of energy legislation that an overwhelming majority of
Americans support.
Last Friday, the Senate voted 53-42 in
favor of the House-passed Energy Bill (H.R. 6) — seven votes short of
the 60 needed to block a Republican filibuster. The bill would raise
fuel economy standards, require utilities to generate 15% of their
electricity from renewable sources, and restore taxes on Big Oil. Now
lobbyists from the oil industry are working with their Republican
friends to remove the oil tax package and the renewable electricity
mandate.1 Don't let the Senate and the oil industry hold the environment hostage.
Tell the Senate not to cave in to Big Oil on the Energy Bill.

While most of the world is busy meeting in Bali to figure out the next
steps on global warming, special interests are standing in the way of
real progress here at home. Now is not the time to appease the Oil
Industry. We need to start taking serious action to curb global warming
and this bill is a step in the right direction. Write your Senators today and tell them to stand firm on the Energy Bill.
It's time,
