Iowa AFSCME Drive to Organize Registered Home Childcare Providers
Mark
Smith, President of the Iowa Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO) has
announced that AFSCME Council 61 is conducting a vigorous campaign to
organize registered home childcare providers.
Joining
AFSCME will not only provide those workers with a strong voice at work,
which will improve the delivery of childcare services in Iowa, but will
also provide sorely needed improvements in wages and benefits.
The
180,000 Iowa children who are in some form of childcare each day as
well as the workers who provide this care will be much better off when
the workers have the dignity that comes from a union contract.
In the
next few days you could help AFSCME in this effort by encouraging
persons you know who are registered home childcare providers to sign up.
Call Carolyn at AFSCME (515-246-1517) for more information.
