Vilsack To Chair DLC
The Des Moines Register is reporting today that Tom Vilsack has been chosen to become chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council.
The
interesting item in the story, however, was the backing that Tom
Vilsack is receiving from Al From, the council chief executive.
More
recently, From has been a strong advocate of Vilsack, having quietly
supported the governor a year ago to become the 2004 vice presidential
nominee. Vilsack was a finalist for the No. 2 position on the
Democratic ticket, but Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts selected Sen.
John Edwards of North Carolina.
For those not familiar with Al From, you can take a look at some of his writings in a pamphlet titled “What We Stand For”.
From and the DLC can have some outstanding ideas, and produce some very good writing with much to think about.
What
seems to be missing, however – is a clear vision of where the DLC
stands on basic economic issues. Does “economic growth” mean
actually working to expand opportunity for middle and lower class
workers – or does it mean handing over tax dollars to corporations for
new buildings?
The
notion of “Building An Opportunity Society” is a good one – but actions
must match words when we ask “Build An Opportunity Society For Whom?”
Another shame cast on Iowa. Vilsack heading the DLC? Ugh. Yeah, what I particularly like about the DLC is the way they are really Republicans in disguise and the way they work to destroy the Democratic party from within. Great group of people trying to corporatize the American government and destroy the human soul at the same time. Way to go, Vilsack!

Yeah, it was interesting seeing Tom, during the Hall of Fame dinner, speak in honor of Dean, who's leading and representing the Democratic Party grassroots and everyday citizen voter, when his wife was helping in Iowa to prop Kerry into the lead and take the knees out from Dean's lead.
It is odd, but being he does follow his wife's political power yearnings and urgings, taking a position of 'power' opposite Dean, as head of the ideologically Republicrats DLC is like a check move and maintenance of National visibility. Is he still Democratic Governor's Chair? I suppose he can still possibly run for a position as VP or Prez from heading the DLC as compared to Dean.
It just seems that since the big money schmoozers can't have their way and lobbying influence thru money and goodies handed out like candy, like they used to with McAuliffe as DNC Chair, the DLC will come to represent them even more, the 'liberal' political monied crowd's interest to counter anything coming out of the DNC/Democratic Party. Theirs is not a voice representing the common working middleclass person, that says “We the people can make the decisions to govern ourselves, it's more a Patronizing/demeaning voice that says “We with money know what's good for you, and shall make the decisions. Now just behave and we'll treat you better than those big 'ole meany Republicans. Daddy's gonna treat you right.” Pah, feh, whatever.
I say, Dean may have had a silver spoon in his mouth from his blueblooded birthright, but like Buddha, he has turned his back on it and would rather see every US citizen maintain their Constitutional freedoms, equality, liberty, and self-determination, plus fair access to the tools for wealth, health, and education; over corporations and narrow lobbyist political games and corruption. Atleast, I hope. =P

Wow. That is really an interesting observation about Dean, Christina! I had never made that connection before.
