MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A new rule cutting pollution from farm equipment
should save 300 Iowa lives a year when fully implemented, federal
officials said.
But
the rule which cuts emissions from off-road farming, construction and
mining equipment will not keep farmers from using their old tractors,
James Gulliford, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's regional
director, said Tuesday in Des Moines.
“This
is one of the biggest decisions in the 30-year history of EPA,”
Gulliford said. “This will rank up there with taking lead out of
gasoline.”

way across Iowa this week. They stopped at Abraham Lincoln High School
this morning to meet with members of the public interested in seeing
the futuristic solar car and alternative energy.
The
team's car, Spectrum, is the seventh generation TeamPrISUm solar car.
It is not only used to test the skills of young engineers as well as
the marketing, fund raising and racing skills of other team members, it
is also used to promote the use of alternative energy sources that help
reduce pollution and America's dependence on foreign oil.
