PACIFIC JUNCTION, Iowa — There's growing concern over a lake buried in trash south of the Omaha metro in Pacific Junction, Iowa.
Locals say Folsom Lake, a state recreational area, has become a dumping ground for junk. They've found broken beer bottles, used hypodermic needles and every other variety of trash. Police say criminal activity is a constant problem, too. . . .
“We have to take the lake back,” said Portner. “It's been taken from us.”
Teams to compete in Iowa Envirothon Contest

GUTHRIE CENTER, Iowa — Seventeen teams from throughout Iowa advanced to the ninth annual Iowa Envirothon Contest to be held this week at Springbrook State Park near Guthrie Center.
Competing students will test their knowledge of aquatic ecology, forestry, soils, wildlife and current environmental issues at several stations throughout Springbrook's Education Center. As part of the competition, each team will also make an oral presentation, providing background information on Natural Resource Management in Urban Environments.
