Here is a word from Ryan Melton. Ryan is hard working and straight talking in a good way. This is one of the best newsletters I’ve seen. Read on for how you can help. You can sign up to receive his weekly newsletter below. Click here to see candidate Melton’s 2022 appearance on Iowa Press
This is Ryan Melton, Democrat running for the U.S. House in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. During my 2024 campaign, I’ll send you a weekly email to keep you in the loop while not overwhelming your inbox. Typically, the newsletter will be a review from the week prior: Where we went, what issues of note were on the minds of those I met with, where we’ll be in the next week, etc.
Where we went and what people were concerned about:
Considering last week was Thanksgiving week, I decided to take a break from the campaign trail to spend time with family. As such, I’ll focus on the notable social media post on our campaign socials last week. I’ve included the link to the article I featured in our press/social media posts of note section below. The article refers in depth to one of the primary areas of focus of my campaign: The purposeful hollowing out of red states by Republicans in positions of power who are seeking to consolidate their power by driving out people that are less likely to vote for them.
The relatively recent notable turn toward extremism we’ve seen in the legislation coming out of Republican-controlled legislatures at the state and federal level has indeed driven out plenty of left-leaning voters from states like ours. A number of them reached out to me after the last election and told me they have since moved out of the state. If you consider national polling on single issue asks divorced from party affiliation that continues to go our way, or single issue elections on conservative bread and butter issues in red states where left-leaning voters turned out in droves to spurn attempts to steal civil rights, or the fact it’s been 20 years since a Republican presidential candidate has won the popular vote, it’s clear Republican thought leaders and strategists aren’t trying to win elections on policy, they are trying to win by driving people out in order to make red states redder. As such, we need to keep finding candidates in every race on the left to call this out and to connect to the pain people are feeling on the ground to those actions.
Our schedule for this week:
-Thursday 11/30: 6:30 – 8:30 PM, Hoff Family Arts & Cultural Center in Council Bluffs with State Rep Josh Turek, U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, and others
