What’s So Imminent About Eminent Domain?

The Heart of Iowa 1st Wednesday Speaker Series continues tonight, Wednesday, June 6, at 8 p.m. with “What’s So Imminent About Eminent Domain?”

Three companies are proposing capturing carbon dioxide from ethanol and other industrial ag plants in Iowa and sequestering it underground. Companies want to negotiate voluntary agreements with landowners. But what if landowners do NOT want to allow the pipeline to cross their land? Does carbon sequestration even make scientific sense? What would the pipeline’s environmental effect have on Iowa land?

Join our panel of activists: Jessica Mazour – Sierra Club, Iowa Chapter, Conservation Program Coordinator, Jan Norris – concerned neighbor to Summit route from Montgomery County, and Jessica Wiskus – candidate for Iowa Senate District 42. Dr. Glenn Hurst, chair of the Rural Caucus will moderate. Join the conversation!

This free event will take place via Zoom and is open to the public. Advance registration required at heartofiowadems.com/register. The 1st Wednesday Speaker Series is hosted by Heart of Iowa Democrats of Benton, Iowa, Marshall, Poweshiek, and Tama counties.
