Just like it does every year, school is coming to an end for a short while. This is of course time that youngsters will spend in the field picking off potato bugs and other critters that damage crops. Good for a youngster to understand that food doesn’t grow on trees – or better yet that they understand that food does grow on trees and on vines and on stalks and right up from the ground where that seed was buried.
We are long removed from the day when we needed the kids to do farm work in the summer time. For the health of our economy, it may be a good time to explore schools that are open 12 months a year. Until then, grab a book and a cold one and head to the hammock.
