A note from the Anderson for Iowa campaign:
By now you’ve probably heard in the news about the growing number of controversies and scandals from Secretary of State Matt Schultz’s office. Since it seems like every day there is a new development, I thought I’d help summarize what we know so far, by the numbers:
12 — Number of Iowa voters who were wrongly put on Schultz’s list of ineligible voters and had their 2012 votes thrown out.
$240,000 — Amount of taxpayer money Schultz wasted on a fruitless investigation attempting to prove voter fraud exists in Iowa.
$126,000 — Taxpayer-funded salary of a political crony who did no work yet remained on Schultz’s official payroll long after his position was eliminated.
$4,908 — Amount Schultz was forced to pay back the state after breaking Iowa’s nepotism law and illegally hiring his brother to work in his official office.
7 — Number of days Schultz spent on a junket to Switzerland while Iowa’s 99 county auditors gathered in Des Moines to discuss election laws and innovations.
10 — Number of spots Iowa has fallen under Schultz on the Pew Charitable Trust “Election Performance Index” which ranks states’ voting and election administration.
There is more, but you get the idea. Of course, Schultz is not running for re-election and the Secretary of State race is an open seat.
Incredibly, despite years of controversy and mismanagement, my opponent actually said he wants to “continue Secretary Schultz’s good stewardship of the office.” I disagree. I believe we need to turn the page once and for all on the Schultz administration and elect a Secretary of State who will focus on modernizing the office, making it easier for small businesses to incorporate in Iowa, and work every day to make Iowa number one in the nation in voter turnout.
Our next big fundraising deadline is in two weeks. Help us make a bold statement by contributing to our campaign today and standing up to voter suppression and wasteful spending.
With your help we will win this race in November, protect Iowans’ right to vote and chart an innovative, new path forward in the Secretary of State’s office.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Brad
