Sunday Funday March Memorial Edition

just not sure

just not sure

The fiftieth anniversary of the March on Washington took place yesterday. As with anything, memorials and anniversaries are but shadows of the real thing. I feel so lucky to have been alive to see the real thing. Those who attended must have gone away inspired from head to toe. The work for equality still goes on fifty years later. We needed to have the slight shine on the past to help us into the future.

But every now and then, we need to have some amusement or we will get so tight we will pop. So for this week I ask …

1) What major country will now recognize Bitcoin as legal tender in law and for tax purposes. What country?

2) Glenn Greenwald’s spouse was stopped and interrogated in London during a stopover. This person shares a last name with a person made famous because of interrogation. What is Greenwald’s spouse’s last name?

3) What presidential hopeful renounced his citizenship – Canadian citizenship that is – Tuesday?

4) Looks like “Sequester” is going to take down one of the most successful remaining legacies of Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society.” Not kill it, but severely wound it. What program will get a big cut this fall?

5) Obama broke a campaign promise once more. This time to his children. What did he do that broke his promise to his girls?

6) Down in Louisiana, Republicans believe that what president was responsible for the slow response to Katrina in 2005?

7) Scientists announced discovery of the Olinguito recently. What is an Olinguito?

8) In Oklahoma, three teenagers shot and killed a young man (Chris Lane) jogging to his girlfriend’s house. What reason did they give?

9) The home country of the victim in the previous question is considering boycotting travel to the US. What was Chris Lane’s home country?

10) Even in war some things are abhorent. What abhorent act was Syria’s government accused of committing this week?

11) Who currently has possesion of the original physical copy of Dr. King’s “I have a Dream” speech?

12) August 21st was the 54th anniversary of the addition of our 50th state to the US. What state is that? (hint: it is the foreign country Obama was born in)

13) Wild fires in California have invaded what national park?

14) Talk about cool under fire. This elementary school office worker talked a potential gunman out of commiting a horrible crime. Did you hear her name?

15) Brown bag it to work this Thursday and stay out of the fast food joints. Why?

Sounds like next week we take a short visit to the outer zipcodes of hell. Or at least that seems to be the weather forecast. Don’t worry. In a few weeks we’ll be freezing. But that will give you a good reason to stay in and watch them Hawkeyes start the season with a victory!

Answers:

1) Germany – do you know what a bitcoin is?

2) Miranda – as in the Miranda warning at the time of arrest.

3) Ted “Calgary” Cruz

4) Head Start

5) they got another dog. A female named Sunny. But he told them no second dog.

6) Barack Obama. Even though he was a freshman senator. 29% Obama, 28% Bush, 43% not sure. Can’t make this stuff up.

7) the newly discovered species of mammal living in the Andean cloud forest. It is a cousin to the racoon.

8) they were bored.

9) Australia

10) a chemical massacre of their own citizens

11) Former Iowa basketball coach George Raveling

12) Hawaii

13) Yosemite

14) Antoinette Tuff – can we make a medal large enough for her?
