This note arrived July 25, 2013 from Amy K. Dacey, executive director of EMILY’s List. Staci Appel (IA-03), a former state senator who wrote landmark legislation for quality preschool programs, is running to become Iowa’s first Democratic congresswoman. Appel was one of six rising stars in congressional races added to EMILY’s List.
House Speaker John Boehner went on CBS’s Face the Nation last weekend to explain the Republican Party’s agenda:
“We should not be judged on how many new laws we create. We ought to be judged on how many laws we repeal.”
Well I’ve got news for you, Speaker Boehner: We don’t like your agenda.
If we want a House that puts people before politics and solutions before stalemates, we need to put the speaker’s gavel back into Nancy Pelosi’s hands. And the #1 way that we can take back the House is to elect more pro-choice Democratic women in 2014.
EMILY’s List is not waiting a minute to do it– and that’s why we have our “On The List” candidates. These women are all smart, tough leaders who have tackled diverse challenges in their communities. And this week, we’re proud to have put six new rising star congressional candidates “On the List.”
Our community now stands more than two million members strong. “On The List” is a way to ensure our members can engage with and support promising candidates across the country even earlier in the election cycle. By putting these women “On The List,” EMILY’s List is ensuring that they have access to this powerful network of supporters.
All of the women on this list have what it takes to stand up to Republicans like John Boehner and Paul Ryan, and move us forward with real solutions to our nation’s biggest problems.
We’re thrilled to support them during the early days of their campaigns– to fight back against the Republicans’ anti-choice, anti-woman, and anti-progress agenda.
Thank you for your ongoing support of EMILY’s List and our work to elect pro-choice Democratic women to Congress and all levels of government.
Amy K. Dacey
