Well, the other day that paragon of flowing with the money, Mitt Romney, showed his true colors and kissed the ring of the Donald, thus providing legitimization to the Donald and his crackpot theory that President Obama was not a born United States citizen.
And once more we see the mighty Romney get on his knees when he should be standing proud and proclaiming that he indeed does stand for something. Apparently what he stands for is money. If you have it, Mitt sends his love. The other thing he stands for is votes. If you can deliver some votes, Mitt will supplicate himself to your will. Just ask Bryan Fischer of the extreme right wing American Family Association. Fischer mocked (yes mocked) Romney for bowing down and kissing Fischer’s proverbial rump when Romney fired foreign policy adviser Ric Grennell.
Romney is the guy who chased the Republican nomination by standing for absolutely nothing. Every time his position was criticized, Romney changed it. And as the the Republican Party went racing into a narrow view right wing party, Romney was right behind. As the party let Hispanics know they were not welcomed in this country (show your papers!) Romney was right behind the crazies leading the charge. As the party came up with crazy idea after crazy idea to let women know that Republicans consider them second class citizens and their health is subject to the whims of old men in congress, Mitt was right behind the parade hoping to pick up votes.
This man of no spine even took to criticizing policy that he once championed – the so-called RomneyCare in Massachusetts. My recollection is that Mitt reluctantly supported that bill only when he learned how popular it was. Now that the Republican base doesn’t like it, neither does Mitt. And if Mitt is still around and running in 2016 and if the ACA survives the radical right Supreme Court, it will prove popular and Mitt will be claiming that he is the one who came up with the idea.
Recently I saw a Mitt ad which claimed he would stand up to the Chinese. Seriously? Romney is a guy who sent tons of jobs to China through his wrecking ball company, Bain. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chinese gave him a medal for that. But honestly, if he can’t stand up to Donald Trump or Bryan Fischer or at least take a principled stand, how could he stand up to Wen Jiabao? Or Vladimir Putin for that matter?
But one thing you can be certain of. He will spend money. He likes to spend money. Only now it will be your money. Since he supports Paul Ryan’s crazy budget plan, it will most likely be your Social Security and Medicare that he will spend. Probably eliminate taxes on corporations to start. That would be a good way to spend your Social Security, wouldn’t it? Give the “job creators” more money and maybe they will have a low wage job you can do when your 80. Something to look forward to with Mitt.
But much as Romney scares me, the ones who really scare me are the ones who will vote for a Mitt Romney. They live in a world that has little to do with reality. And that is scary.
