This note from Loebsack for Congress came to our inbox today.
It’s beginning.
Tomorrow, the National Republican Campaign Committee will begin running negative ads against me across the district. Over the next two weeks they will attack my record using fear and gross generalizations.
We saw last cycle how much money outside groups are willing and able to pour into congressional elections, including mine, to influence their outcomes. Now it’s starting again. It’s sad and disgusting to see negative advertising start so early.
Together we can send a message that Iowans won’t stoop to their level, but instead will stay focused on getting our economy moving again and Iowans back to work.
Please help my campaign with a contribution of $25, $100 or even $250 today to help me fight back.
Although election day is still well over a year away, I already have three opponents officially declared to run against me. They have begun to raise money and meet with voters.
Over the coming months, we have a chance to find out if they are willing to join me and a vast majority of voters who say Congress should find a balance in reducing the national debt. Or if they will hold Social Security and Medicare recipients hostage in order to reduce the deficit without looking at the very real alternatives we have.
I refuse to balance the budget on the backs of the middle class, seniors, and the most vulnerable among us. We all must shoulder part of the load.
Please consider making a contribution of $25, $100, or $250 today.
I know that politics in Washington has been frustrating for all of us recently, but I have endeavored to stay above the petty bickering and stay focused on what I can do to help locally. All month long, I have been meeting with constituents and businesses to find ways to create jobs, not attacking my opponents on TV.
Let’s stay in touch and move forward together.
And as always, take care,
Dave
