Dear Friends,

Nationally-known comedian Lee Camp joins us on the Fallon Forum tonight. Lee's not afraid to be controversial, and you'll see that if you check out his appearance on Fox News (video contains some so-called explicit language). He's also promoting tomorrow's Flag Day Rebellion Against Economic Tyranny (video contains lots of so-called explicit language).

Tonight, Monday, Lee talks with Charles Goldman and me. Then Charles and I discuss the abuse of religion for political purposes, starting with a look at the pornography found in Osama bin Laden's compound. What's a self-described devout Muslim doing with material roundly condemned by his faith? Well, maybe faith's not what drives our “enemies.” And there are plenty of Christian fundamentalist leaders in our own country who pontificate about their faith in public while privately engaging in all sorts of behavior contrary to their religion.

Tuesday, John Ranchow joins us to talk about nuclear power. John is president of national Physicians for Social Responsibility and chairs a working group on radiation and health. John says that the key lesson to learn from Fukushima is not the dangers posed by earthquakes or tsunamis but the risks from spent fuel stored in cooling pools.

Wednesday, we talk politics. The Iowa Legislature grinds on, ad nauseum. We also talk about the growing shape of the Republican presidential field, and I reiterate my call to all Iowans who love democracy, their state, and a good time to caucus Republican.

Thursday, we talk about the Farm & Food Bill with Susan Heathcote of the Iowa Environmental Council. With Congress likely to cut the federal budget, ag lobbyists are pushing to cut programs that actually work (e.g., some of the conservation measures) while leaving intact handouts to corporate agribusiness (e.g., crop subsidies).

So tune in Monday-Thursday, 7:00-8:00 pm, at 98.3 WOW-FM and online. You can download the show as a hear it as a podcast, too. Thanks!

Ed
