First, a reminder to check out my new video, Limbaugh, Beck Inspire Progressive Talk Show Host. It's produced by Nick Strickland and posted on the Fallon Forum website and on Youtube [and in the Blog for Iowa archives]. I hope you'll share it with others and help promote the advancement of sanity on our public airwaves.
Monday, Adam Mason with Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement talks about the upcoming Republican-sponsored forums on rules and regulations affecting Iowa businesses. CCI sees these forums as part of the Republican agenda to dismantle the people's government and replace it with a corporate government. (Huh. I thought the people's government had already been dismantled, and that we were now just fighting over the scraps. I need to pay attention.) CCI promises to “crash that corporate party and demand a government that puts people first.”
Tuesday, the flip side of CCI's perspective joins us in the person of Paul McKinley, minority leader in the State Senate. Paul's explanation of the forums reads “Iowans want their elected officials to focus on getting Iowa’s budget and finances in order and to also put the focus back on encouraging private sector job creation.” Well, silly me. I thought the Republicans were focused on guns, gay marriage, abortion and mandating uniforms in public schools. I must have glanced at the wrong playbook.
Wednesday, it's Buzz Malone. Buzz worked as a union official and served as Democratic chair in Lucas County. His career has advanced to the next level, and he's now an Iowa political activist and insider. Unlike me, Buzz has an opinion on everything. (I only have opinions on half of everything.) Check out the cute-but-feisty baby on his website. Honestly, I have no idea where this conversation is going, but I promise a thrilling ride.
Thursday, Mitch Henry and Marcia Beck support ending greyhound racing in Iowa. Interestingly, the corporate casino chains support ending it, too. Politics makes strange bedfellows, and some of the oddest political alliances I've ever seen involve gambling debates. Makes for lively talk radio, too.
