Now is the time for Iowans to start conversations with our local stations about alternatives to hate speech on the publicly owned airwaves. Why not share this funny and entertaining Fallon Forum promo video (below) with your local station and show them how it can be done?
Rush, Glenn and Sean are fast on their way to becoming so-yesterday. The number of sponsors who have dropped Glenn Beck is now upwards of 300 while his ratings continue to plummet. Locally based, civil talk radio makes sense because it is positive for business and positive for the community.
The Fallon Forum and The Bradshaw Show are both great role models for a new, revolutionary concept of polite and civil (and factual) political talk programming. Watch the video and please pass it on to anyone who is interested in better local radio. Ed Fallon (M-Thurs 7-8 pm) and Bradshaw (M-F 1-4 pm) can be heard on 98.3WOW FM or you can stream them.
And don’t forget, non-profit community groups will soon be able to apply for low-power FM stations. For more information, check out Dave Bradley’s recent BFIA post Local Community Radio Act Signed by President Obama

Despite not being an American, I support the thrust of Iowa's talk radio strategy, community based radio hopefully can be a civil and rational alternative to the big 'politicized' broadcasters and really play a strong role in engaging communities and stimulating discussion and ultimately positive solutions and understanding. I develop resources and train community radios around the world and advocate a proactive role for radio working in the community, not simply broadcasting. For those interested, I have plenty of free resources on my website, starting say from http://www.audiencedialogue.net/pmlr.html
