Dear Friends,

Monday: We'll discuss why it's important to stop the repeal movement and fight for the good things that did make it into the Affordable Care Act.

Tuesday: In light of this week's public hearing at the Statehouse, we'll discuss new developments on the proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, an issue that will continue to dominate headlines throughout the 2011 legislative session.

Wednesday: One of the first things Governor Branstad did as Iowa's “new” governor was to place more hurdles in the way of ex-convicts wanting to restore their right to vote. The decision is particularly offensive to Iowa's black leaders, who point out that while blacks comprise less than 3% of the general population, they make-up 25% of Iowa's prison population. This is a timely discussion, especially in light of February being Black History Month.

Thursday: State Rep Dan Kelley (D-Newton) gives us our weekly insider look at the Iowa House. Also, Ying Sa with Community CPA joins us for a nuts-and bolts chat on getting ready for Tax Day, including what do you need to know when it comes to choosing the right person to help you with your taxes.
