The Iowa Healthcare not Warfare Caucus Campaign will hold its initial meeting in Iowa City on Monday, January 17, 4:30 p.m., at the Iowa City Public Library, Room E.

Information will be provided about the Healthcare not Warfare campaign. Our purpose is to elect uncommitted delegates at the 2012 Iowa Presidential Caucuses who support Healthcare for All and Peace in Afghanistan, but are not yet committed to any presidential nominee.

Uncommitted delegates will be committed to:

1.  The passage of National Health Insurance for all Americans (Medicare for All) during the next President's term in office.

2.  The withdrawal of all American forces from Afghanistan within the first year of the next President's term in office.

Past presidential caucuses have elected slates of uncommitted delegates to county and state conventions in Iowa.

We are holding our initial meeting on Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday in honor of his famous speech in 1967, “A Time to Break the Silence.” Dr. King argued that it was time for Americans, including loyal Democrats and independents, to oppose the Viet Nam War openly, not only on the grounds that it was destructive, unwinnable, and lacked the support of the American people, but also because it was preventing Americans from dealing with urgent domestic social problems.
