Busted: teaparty emails members urging them 2 describe shooter as “liberal lunatic”

Bill Kristol on Washington Journal Monday defending Palin's behavior and pushing the “crazy gunman” and “lone shooter”  and “both sides equal” frames. 

Watch for these right-wing frames in the media

The “Lone Shooter” Frame
Emphasis will be on individual actions, ignoring cultural patterns that influenced the event like the militant imagery of Tea Party leaders and Fox News personalities (and conservative talk radio).  (Rand Paul: Giffords Shooting 'Unrelated' To AZ Gun Laws) 

The “Crazy Gunman” Frame
Effort will be made to reduce this complex event to the explanation that the shooter was insane, disregarding the anti-government sentiments that fueled him to action.  (NBC's Pete Williams says it's “not politically motivated, it's the “actions of a disturbed individual.”)

The “Both Sides Equal” Frame
Media coverage will presume violent rhetoric is equal on the left and right, ignoring facts.  (There is no liberal Joyce Kaufman telling their flock “if ballots don't work, bullets will.” )  (Left-Wing Extremist = ladies dressed in pink loudly confronting neocons in public. Right-Wing Extremism = death.)   (David Gregory blames Alan Grayson. No mention of Angle,Palin's gunsights or Jesse Kelly's “Get on target for victory.”)  While the left is not perfect, it is obvious that most of the vitriole comes from the right who also own most of the media. 

The “We're All Sorry” Frame
Spokespeople on the right who have fueled violent rhetoric (e.g Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh) will publicly condemn violent actions while continuing to  promote negative views of entire classes of people.  This behavior will not be present among liberals.  (Palin Aide: Those Crosshairs Weren't Actually Gun Sights – but our hearts go out to the families and victims).
