Dear Friends,

Monday, Nick Strickland leads a pre-holiday discussion on “Consumerism vs Enoughism.” How much stuff is too much? Can you buy your way to holiday happiness, as Wall Street would have us believe? Or does the path to a deeper, more sustaining contentment lie beyond a less-commercialized rainbow?

Tuesday, Dr. Charles Goldman and a representative from the Iowa Bar Association discuss their concerns over the process by which the three Iowa Supreme Court justices were removed from office, especially the role that out-of-state money played. This election begs an important question: Where does the merit-based selection of judges go from here?

Wednesday, Goldman is back again (yeah, I know, we can't get rid of this guy), this time with Ben Stone from the American Civil Liberties Union. They'll discuss issues regarding recent US Supreme Court decisions, especially the Citizens United case that increased corporate power in elections and the Phelps' freedom of speech case.

Thursday, Jon Krieg with American Friends Service Committee debunks the myth of immigrants “getting in line” if they want a slice of the American Dream. Line? Really? Where exactly is that line and what does it look like?
