From November 15-19, David Cobb of the organization, Move to Amend, will be touring Eastern Iowa, talking about Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, in which “the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are persons, entitled by the U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government. Human beings are people; corporations are legal fictions.”

~ David Cobb is a lawyer from Texas who resides in California and offers DEMOCRACY TRAINING at Democracy Unlimited of Humbolt County. He was the 2004 Green Party Candidate for US President. He sits on the National Board of Sierra Club. He is a principal at POCLAD (Program on Corporations Law & Democracy) and is a leader on the Executive Committee of National MOVE TO AMEND, http://www.MoveToAmend.org. David is passionate about the way corporations, during the 1880s, in a fit of industrial robber baron capitalism and expansion, illegitimately took many of the Constitutional rights that were intended for human persons and created the legal fiction of ‘corporate persons’. As Corporate Persons, corporations then used those rights against We The People (us mere mortals) creating a forever uneven balance of power, and ultimately, with the rolling back of limits and regulations on corporations, threaten our very Democracy. Historically the Supreme Court was complicit in this takeover of human constitutional rights. And that pattern continues right through the Jan. 21, 2010 Citizens United decision which has unleashed obscene amounts of money into our electoral processes. David’s fiery prescription is abolishing corporate personhood through Amending the Constitution. His presentation will be part history, part call to action. It’s a message we need to hear/
