Blog for Iowa Canvassing Day Part 3

Carrie La Seur is the president and founder of Plains Justice, and a current resident of Montana. She recently began blogging about her work at Plains Justice and if readers are interested in the issues surrounding clean energy, it is a must read, so BFIA suggests you add it to your RSS feed.

The following article about water quality in Iowa, the Iowa Farm Bureau and “facts” about water quality appeared Saturday:

Iowa Water Quality: How Many Words Are There for Ick?

“Back in late September, Iowa Policy Project came out with a new report
showing that nearly all the nitrogen and phosphorus runoff
contaminating Iowa’s waters comes from agriculture. Supportive
editorials ran this week in Iowa’s biggest newspapers, including the Des
Moines
Register and Cedar Rapids Gazette. Iowa Farm Bureau also got around to posting a response on its blog
about 'scare tactics about Iowa’s water quality.' IFB laments that 'environmental activists … play very fast and loose with the facts. They
shout and scream that Iowa has some of the most polluted water in the
country, and point their fingers accusingly at today’s farmers.'”

By the way, it is not too late to get involved with the GOTV effort.  Contact your county auditor or go to IowaDemocrats.org for early voting info. Find contact information for your Democratic county chair here. Did
you know?  …one knock on
the door within 72 hours of the election can increase turnout by 12.5%
— a second by almost as much…a live
phone contact increases turnout by 2.5% to 3%… link.
There are only 3 days left to volunteer.  Find contact information for your Democratic county chair here.   Sign up for a GOTV shift. Your help will be appreciated.
