Iowans Need To Help Clean Up The Gulf Coast
Even from here in the midwest, there are actions we can take to help clean up the unspeakable environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the BP oil spill. (Avoid the gas stations with the green and yellow “sun” on the sign. BP is said to have the worst safety and environmental record of any oil company operating in America.) Sierra Club has a list of events on their website. Last I checked, there were none in Iowa. We can change this by signing up to host an event in Iowa.
And while you're at it, check out the
Iowa Chapter of theSierra Club. There is a pull-down of the Iowa groups that you can join. I was just there and found out that Donna Buell of Spirit
Lake has been elected to the national Sierra Club’s Board of Directors.
She is the first Iowan ever to serve on the national board!
Sierra Club staff and volunteers are hosting Clean It Up events across the country to show that America stands with the impacted communities on the Gulf Coast. We want BP's oil spill cleaned up quickly, BP to be held accountable and for the government to put an immediate moratorium on any new offshore drilling.
Host a Clean It Up Event
Sierra Club will be holding rallies across the nation calling on President Obama and Congress to stand strong with the Gulf Coast.
You can help by hosting an event in your area. Sign up below to become an event organizer. By hosting, you'll be signing up to get event locations and coordinate the volunteers and attendees who sign up to work with you.
Send An E-mail To President Obama
Contact President Obama to say you've had enough—it's time to halt all proposals to allow more oil drilling off our coasts—permanently.
