Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Hosts Annual Meeting in Iowa City Today, Cinco
de Mayo
Eastern Iowa freedom fighters, literature writers, health-care providers, and grassroots organizers –
The Iowa City regional cluster of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement will host its first ever annual meeting today, Wednesday, May 5 (cinco de mayo) at 6:30 pm at the Iowa City Public Library. We will have a potluck dinner, time to socialize, a recap of our recent victories and a keynote speech from Maria Alvarez – an Iowa CCI member from Marshalltown who works with diverse communities across the state to fight for workers’ justice, equal access to higher education for all Iowans regardless of their immigration status, an end to ICE raids, and comprehensive immigration reform.
Father Rudolph “Rudy” Juarez will also speak about the Sanctuary City movement in Iowa City.
Both Maria Alvarez and Father Rudy Juarez will be on Iowa Public Radio’s “the Exchange” program today, Wednesday, May 5, from noon-1pm.
We will also watch the 17-minute segment on Iowa CCI featured on last Friday’s Bill Moyers’ Show. Hope to see you there!
For a more just and democratic Iowa,
