Progressive Radio: This Week On The Fallon Forum
Dear Friends,Today, Monday, on The Fallon Forum we talk with Congressional candidate Pat Bertroche. He’s one of seven Republicans running to take on Leonard Boswell. Bertroche landed some national press last week when he stated that illegal immigrants should be micro-chipped. We’ve heard he’s either backed-off or revised that stance; we’ll find out when we talk with him tonight. We’ll also want to know: (1) why he wants to be in Congress, (2) his take on campaign finance reform, and (3) whether he supports more off-shore oil drilling, in light of the unprecedented disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
But regarding micro-chips, why not just implant one in everybody? If Ed gets lost hunting morels, law enforcement can track him down and still deliver him home in time for supper. If Lynn gets disoriented pulling weeds in our vast organic garden, one quick call to the police and she’s rescued. We’re feeling safer, freer, and better about democracy just thinking about it. You?
Tuesday, we talk with Doug Burns about a range of issues of state and national interest: immigration, the lack of rural representation on the U.S. Supreme Court, the Republican gubernatorial primary, and what’s ahead for the 2012 Iowa Caucuses. Doug’s with The Carroll Daily Times Herald, a paper that’s been in his family since 1929. He also writes regularly for Cityview.
Wednesday, we talk with Mitch Henry and Dan Kelley about gambling. That issue has heated up as much as the weather over the past few weeks, what with questions about the use of campaign money to influence the decision on if and where to allow additional casinos.
Thursday, we talk with Dr. Charles Goldman about ethanol. Charles has appeared on our show in the past to lend his expertise to the health care debate. This week, he ventures into a touchy subject we haven’t yet tackled on The Fallon Forum. We’ll expect plenty of calls from angry corn farmers.
