Iowa
Progressive Radio: This Week On The Fallon Forum

Dear Friends,

Today, Monday, on The Fallon Forum we talk about regulatory reform with Andy Shaffer, a self-described “pissed off taxpayer and 401(k) victim who's been studying this stuff since the 1990s.” Andy says it isn't about the evils of capitalism. America IS a capitalist nation. And it's not about bad morals. It's simply about bad capitalism . . . combined with sheer stupidity.

As economist Matt Taibbi wrote in a recent article, Wall Street “took an industry that was set up to efficiently allocate capital and transformed it into a machine designed to drive up asset prices – and then find suckers to take them.”

Andy points out that wouldn't be so bad if the guilty on Wall Street had been forced to suffer the consequences of their actions. But previous administrations and congressional majorities took the gambling addict, recapitalized him and set him loose in Vegas again, like nothing ever happened.

Now the big question is will Congress have the guts and presence of mind to pass true financial reform, or will it buckle under to lobbyists and big campaign contributors who look forward to their next taxpayer-funded bailout??

Tuesday, we talk with Sandra Sanchez about the immigration legislation enacted in Arizona last week, how it impacts momentum for reform at the federal level, and what’s the potential fallout for Iowa.

Wednesday, we talk with Matt Campbell, one of two Democrats running in the primary to take on Congressman Steve King.

Thursday, we weigh in on the controversy over chickens: caged vs free range.  AND . . .

. . . during Thursday’s show, one of our callers will win a $25 gift certificate toward a SOUL FLOWER t-shirt, made with 100% organic cotton.  Soul-Flower.com is a locally-owned online boutique with bohemian and eco-friendly clothing for the whole family. Soul Flower carries organic cotton goods, recycled fiber clothing, hemp fashions, handmade items, and fair-trade accessories and clothing.
