Health Care Reform Update: Time for a Sabbatical

Health
Care Reform Update: Time for a Sabbatical

by Alta Price, M.D.

Now that a comprehensive health care reform bill has passed on the national level, I think it is time for Blog for Iowa to move on to other subjects. This will be my last weekly Health Care Reform Update.

Those of us working on health care reform are not done, of course. The federal bill is far from perfect, and there will be issues with implementation at both the state and national level. So health care activists will continue to have meetings, lobby state and federal legislators, and plan events. And we will certainly let you know what’s up when we think it is important for everyone to get involved.

I want to thank all of the many BFIA readers who stopped by to see what I had to report on Tuesdays on the issue of health care reform. Doing the research for my blog post every week turned out to be  a wonderful way for me to learn more about the issues at the same time I was educating you!

On that note, I would like to recommend becoming a blogger for Blog for Iowa to anyone who wants to have an impact on any political issue important to Iowans. You will find it to be a rewarding experience. Not only will you learn more yourself, you will educate and influence a wide audience. (Blog for Iowa is doing very well attracting readers.)

Possible issues to cover on a regular basis include marriage equality, local food/agriculture issues, immigration, civil rights, environment, energy, and economic development. I’d also like to read about what people are doing with political groups, like DFA. Maybe we could share best practices here at BFIA.

Again, blogging for BFIA is a rewarding endeavor that I highly recommend. If you think you might be interested in writing, contact one of our editors, Trish Nelson or Paul Deaton.

Thanks again for reading.
