If you want this to pass, please urge your State Senator and Representative to vote yes.  Let them know why a 5-foot passing distance is important to you and your family, how important this is to your kids, kids in your neighborhood, and kids biking to school.  Please let us know if you hear from your legislators.  We are keeping a running tally.

This bicycle safety bill is an investment in the future of cycling in Iowa.  It will be a step in making Iowa more bicycle friendly.  The legislation would give additional tools in teaching driver’s education classes how to share the road with bicycles, it will also give more enforcement tools to law enforcement.  The bill won’t magically make our roads safer, but it is one important step to truly embracing safe and complete streets.  Senator Dotzler (D-Waterloo) summed it up when he said if this bill helped teach anyone in driver’s education and “saved one life, it would be worth it.”

Thank you for helping to make Iowa a more bicycle friendly state.  A few minutes of your time to send a few emails could make all the difference in the world.  Please keep us informed of any information or feedback you receive.
