Harkin v. King on The Fairness Doctrine

Harkin v. King on The Fairness Doctrine

Everyone, stand back from your computer – we're about to bring up The Fairness Doctrine (you know how it drives the GOP wild)!

Earlier this week Blog for Iowa posted a couple of articles about all the freaking out by the conservative talk radio pundits over the possibility that their stations may be required to air a range of views alongside the all-conservative-programming-all-the-time that they have grown accustomed to.  Indeed, they've had it made for quite a while now, after Reagan trashed the Fairness Doctrine and huge media conglomerates quickly gobbled up all the local stations and started broadcasting whatever was expedient for them, ignoring whether it met the diverse needs of the local communities as required by the FCC for their licensure.

This week Senator Tom Harkin casually mentioned he wouldn't mind if the Fairness Doctrine made a come-back.  Here's the Harkin video from YouTube.com.  Fifth District Congressman Steve King said the Fairness Doctrine is “Chinese-style censorship.”  Watch out for flying objects.
