Blog for Iowa Seeks Progressive Writers
Blog for Iowa welcomes submissions from a progressive point of view. We have three categories of submissions: Information sharing: This can take the form of articles and posts from other publications, websites or blogs or information about local actions and events in your community. Let us help you get the word out about your event or meeting.
Original news reporting: If you attended a successful meet-up or event, tell us about it; if something of import is happening in your community, or if you have an inspiring personal story, let your voice be heard on BFIA.
Commentary: We welcome opinions from a progressive point of view, and are particularly interested in submissions relating to progressive action and media issues in Iowa. It’s easy. For example, maybe you wrote a great LTE to your local paper and it didn’t get published – your voice can still be heard.
Language is important, especially when we are part of the fight against the GOP-dominated mass media. We do not wish to repeat GOP talking points or give any validity to the GOP memes, such as “win the peace.”
We think you will find it enlightening to read the work of George Lakoff on framing the progressive message.
You can find some of that information at RockridgeInstitute.Org
Suggestions for referring to “W” who as of January 20th is no longer the faux president, but merely the former figurehead of the [under-reported] coup d'etat in 2000 in Florida: Because “W” was appointed, not elected in 2000, and because the election of 2004 was stolen in Ohio, it has been the practice of BFIA to never refer to “W” as “President” Bush. We rely on the old standards – Junta puppet, the pseudo-pResident, Junior… but whatever works for you.
The Bush-Rove-Supreme Court-GOP-Katherine Harris led constitutional mugging that resulted in eight interminable years of damage to the country is now mercifully terminating, so hopefully, there will not be much reason to utter “W's” name from this point forward, unless of course the entire cabal is tried for war crimes….but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
So, send us your stuff!
