As you may have heard, Hannity & Colmes aired its final TV show, January 9, 2009.   After twelve long years, FOX’s token liberal and sidekick of Sean Hannity (the GOP’s true leader),  Alan Colmes is apparently moving on to new adventures.  How ever will the “fair and balanced”  entertainment channel, Faux Noise, continue its tradition of unbiased journalism without their only liberal host?  One cannot even imagine the turn the Sean Hannity show might take from this point forward.  

Says Colmes on his website:  “Since I won’t be around to balance Hannity out, I gave him a copy of the works of Karl Marx, including The Communist Manifesto.  Included in my gift packet was a map of “Hannity’s America” where all the states are red, but there are blue dots at Cambridge, MA and Berkeley, CA.  I received a picture of a shirtless Barack Obama. Oh, yeah, and a gorgeous Rolex. “  

So, it’s good-bye, Hannity & Colmes, but fear not, Iowans.  If you are an Alan Colmes fan (and there are several of you out there), and you happen to live in the Ottumwa area, you can still hear your guy on your local radio station, KBIZ 1240 on your AM dial.  As previously reported on BFIA, KBIZ is the only local radio station we could find in Iowa that actually broadcasts a bona fide, syndicated progressive talk program, (although there are some who would argue that Colmes doesn’t count).  Still, I find it impressive for a Southeastern Iowa town to carry a flaming liberal talk show, even if they do air it from 9-midnight weeknights. 

You go, Ottumwa!  Maybe you could give lessons on how to get a progressive radio station on our local airwaves.  

If you’re the kind of person that likes to take action, not just read blogs, and you live in Ottumwa, contact KBIZ and let them know you’re listening to Liberaland!  Support its advertisers.  

Everyone else, you do not have progressive programming on your local radio stations.  (NPR does not count – why?  it is mainstream, not progressive…more about this later). Your station airs exclusively conservative talk.  So contact your local station and demand more balanced programming on the publicly owned airwaves.  Boycott their advertisers until they do.  Examine their public inspection files.  Complain to the FCC.  Get organized.  Hate speech is hurting Iowa.
