Iowa for Health Care Leads Charge to Fix Health Care System

Iowa for Health Care

Health Care Voters and leaders of the state's largest issue-based campaign, Iowa for Health Care, extend their congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama and the many down-ticket health care candidates in Iowa who won their respective elections.

Health Care Voters took advantage of Iowa for Health Care's intensive micro-targeting efforts to have quality conversations with the most persuadable voters over the phones and at the doors.

Work began last summer by getting our members actively involved in the caucus process, making health care a top issue in the January caucus. Then we continued with Iowa for Health Care's expanding the electorate by registering new voters and ensuring infrequent voters were registered at their current addresses. We helped educate voters on the importance of access to quality affordable health care by holding rallies, house parties and other earned media events throughout the election to complement the one-on-one work done in the community.

Since May 1st, 2007, we've:

·         Registered 5,261 new voters;

·         Grown our Health Care Voters by 13,546 (collected over 9,793 emails);

·         Held 214 community events stressing the need for health care reform;

·         Discussed health care in over 100 news stories;

·         Knocked on 13,353 doors;

·         And made 50,723 phone calls.

“Health Care Voters across the state proved that they can make politics work and elected health care candidates who are ready to step up and do what is right for the people of this country. Now the real work starts! Iowa for Health Care and its over 40,000 Health Care Voters will stay active by holding our leaders accountable for the promises they made over this past campaign season on affordable health care. We've fought long and hard for positive changes on this issue, and Americans deserve a health care system that works for them,” said Kirsten Running-Marquardt.
