Did Hell Freeze Over When I Wasn’t Looking? What Happened to FoxNews?

by Linda Thieman

There is something really weird going on in the country right now.  I’m not talking about the scary economic collapse, the subject of which McCain seems to be ignoring completely.  I’m not talking about the way the desperate McCain campaign has, for weeks now, been inflaming the GOP masses, almost to the point of inciting a riot every time McCain mentions Barack “Hussein” Obama’s name.  I’m not even talking about the part where all around him, McCain’s mouthpieces, including his wife and his formerly-charming VP candidate selection are trying their darnedest to smear Obama’s good name and character while John McCain disingenuously tries to take the high road by uttering trite aphorisms admonishing those who boo Obama that Obama deserves respect and that, he John McCain, is going to treat him thusly.

No, I’m talking about the way that FoxNews seems to have turned against McCain.

FoxNews is now against McCain’s using smear tactics?  Instead of leading the charge like they usually do?  It’s true that this is posted under the heading Blue Streak, meaning it comes from an author who is left of center.  But come on, whenever FoxNews tries to portray a “reporter” as even so far to the left as to be called a moderate, that moderate is generally just a millimeter to the left of ultraconservative.  The moderate is used to firm up ultraconservative convictions by picking one tiny point and disagreeing with that while tacitly reinforcing the underlying assumptions.

And then, directly following that, FoxNews runs a report stating that “a state legislative panel has concluded that Sarah Palin abused her power in the firing of the state's public safety commissioner.

Where’s the whitewash?  Where's the spin?  Where’s the defensive posture that FoxNews is so well-known for?  Seems like you can’t count on anything these days.

Ah, well, back to our regularly scheduled program.
