Planned Parenthood E-NEWSLETTER: AUGUST 2008

Planned Parenthood E-NEWSLETTER: AUGUST 2008

By Cecile Richards

We've heard the rumors for weeks, but newly surfaced documents have
confirmed the unthinkable — the Bush administration is considering a
politically motivated new rule that deliberately confuses contraception
with abortion, allowing providers to cherry pick the information they
give women and cut off access to some of the most commonly used forms
of birth control. It's a desperate Hail Mary pass from politicians who
have lost all credibility on women's health issues.

In less than 48 hours, Planned Parenthood supporters sent more than
25,000 messages to President Bush voicing their opposition. Thank you!
And if you haven't done so already, please take a moment now to give the White House a piece of your mind.

There is no room for political agendas in the exam room when a woman is
with her health care provider, and we won't stop until every woman in
America has equal access to the full truth about her health care
options.

Buckle your seat belts — this is not over.

Sincerely,

Cecile Richards, President Planned Parenthood Federation of America

<<—< OUTRAGE >—>> Radical anti-choice law takes
effect in South Dakota: Doctors throughout the state are now forced to
comply with a law that requires them to tell their patients that the
abortion will terminate “the life of a whole, separate, unique living
human being.” Doctors' expertise doesn't matter, and patients'
intelligence isn't the point. It's the law.

<<—< ALL THE RAGE >—>> Tell President Bush not to
sell out women's health: Federal funding that is specifically designed
to prevent unintended pregnancy and promote reproductive health may
soon be used by facilities and providers that refuse to offer
comprehensive birth control and reproductive health care services. Join us to prevent this massive sellout.

<<—< HERE >—>> In an effort to reduce the number
of unintended pregnancies in Iowa, Planned Parenthood of Greater
Iowa(PPGI) is partnering with the three Planned Parenthood affiliates
in the state to provide all women of Iowa with affordable long-acting
birth control. If you or someone you know is looking for an easy,
effective and free method of birth control, consider joining the more
than 2,100 Iowan women who have already received their IUD or Implanon?
through PPGI's long-acting reversible contraception promotions. Call
1.800.230.PLAN (7526) to schedule an appointment. This promotion is
available only at Iowa Planned Parenthood clinics and will begin August
18 with appointments being scheduled by September 30 for a free IUD or
Implanon? (insertion to take place in September, October or November).

fewer teen pregnancies and HIV infections: Education is improving in
Kenya, and so are the statistics on teen pregnancy and HIV infection. But roadblocks to education persist.
