Nussle's Extremism is Wrong for Iowa!

By the JC Dems

To:  Voters of Iowa

Nussle's Extremism Is Wrong For Iowa.
Choice, stem cell research, and the minimum wage:
the differences between the candidates for
Iowa Governor are clear!

An Overview of Nussle and Culver's positions.

Jim Nussle
-Supports a South Dakota-style absolute ban on abortions for any reason.
-Will maintain Iowa's ban on embryonic stem cell research.
-Voted at least 10 times against raising the minimum wage.

In contrast, Chet Culver has been very clear and direct:
-Supports letting a woman make her own health care decisions.
-Supports lifting Iowa's ban on embryonic stem cell research.
-Supports increasing the minimum wage—and has promised to increase Iowa's minimum wage to $7.25 per hour in the first 100 days of his first term as Governor.

Here are some more details on Nussle’s positions.

On CHOICE:
“We asked Nussle directly twice if there are any situations in which a woman should be allowed to have an abortion legally. He did not offer any such circumstances and said he makes no exceptions in his pro-life position, even in cases where a woman is raped or her own life is at risk. [Carroll Daily Times Herald, 9/12/06]

On STEM CELL research:
Nussle has voted AGAINST expanding stem cell research and supported President Bush’s veto of these life-saving opportunities. Congressman Nussle opposes lifting Iowa's ban on stem cell research and is blocking real progress on treatments that will one day help our family members and friends, and win the battle against diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Diabetes.

On RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE:
Nussle has repeatedly voted against raising the federal minimum wage, while consistently voting to give himself a pay raise. Since he has been in office, his pay has increased $31,600 — while the minimum wage of $5.15 and hour has not been raised in nine years.

The record is quite clear. Congressman Jim Nussle has spent his time in Washington taking extremist positions. Now he wants to bring his extremist views back to Iowa.

I have read the positions of Jim Nussle and Chet Culver and I make the following pledge:

1. I pledge to vote for Chet Culver on or before Tuesday, November 7, 2006.

2. I've added my name to the list below and will forward it on to at least 5 of my friends and family in Iowa.

We fear what Jim Nussle would do to Iowa if his agenda were allowed to happen in the State Capitol. We encourage all Iowans to vote for Chet Culver on or before Tuesday, November 7, 2006.

Sincerely,
