  Iowa Blog Roundup

By Sam Garchik

First off, the Democracy for America voting continues. As of 6:00 PM CST on Saturday, Loebscak was in 5th, Braley hanging on in 13th. The top five candidates will advance to an instant run-off round starting on June 19 to determine DFA's next DFA-List candidate. Keep telling people to vote for either of these fine Iowa candidtes.

I just talked to Alta Price of DFQC, who told me that the Democrats there are planning on running two people for the now open seats in Bettendorf. Linda Theiman pointed out that Braley did pretty well there, and Alta confirmed that Bettendorf if generally more socially progressive than either of the two people who the GOP is running. This is great news for Democrats who can get on the ballot.

An Edwards supporter named Michele Blair sent me this notice about Edward's visit on Monday. He is expected to campaign for both Braley and Culver, with the Braley even being at The Plaza (300 Walnut Street) in downtown Des Moines. This event starts at 5:00 PM, and has a reccomended contribution of $25.

Also, Martha Smithback (email her at martsmithback@yahoo.com) has contacted me looking for help with a Draft Gore in 08 event planned for Iowa City on June 30th. If any of you are interested, please contact her directly.

And finally, Iowans for Sensible Priorities is bringing Warren Langley, a national board member of Business Leaders for Sensible Priorities, to the Waterloo area to talk about federal spending. If there are any media outlets or people interested in interviewing him for this blog, please contact Linda Mamoun at <a class="" onclick="Utils.clickySound(); var email='linda mamoun '; if (typeof Popup=='undefined') popUpQuickAdd(email); else Popup.quickAdd(email); return false;” href=”mailto:ljmamoun@yahoo.com”>ljmamoun@yahoo.com.

Thanks again for all your great help. Keep spreading the word, and be sure to listen to AM 800 KXIC tomorrow from 9 – 12 and Monday through Fridays from 5 – 9 to hear Air America and show your support for this programming move.

    According to the DMReg–
    Scott County 63/63 reporting
    Braley 2,085 38.77%
    Dickenson 437 8.13%
    Gluba 2,614 48.61%
    Heath 242 4.50%
So, your theory about Scott Co voting progressive is correct, since Gluba is an anti-choice progressive.

    Thanks for the mention.
I got the details on the Braley fundraiser off Political Forecast http://www.politicalforecast.net/2006/06/08/ia-01-john-edwards-to-hold-fundraiser-for-braley-in-des-moines/
originally. I don't think I included that in my e-mail. Sorry Mr Woods, maybe this link will forgive that omission.
Edwards will be doing two more events Sunday June 11, 2006 in IA. Check the OAC Recent News diary http://blog.oneamericacommittee.com/story/2006/6/10/203025/125
for more details. I don't have the exact location for one of them, but I posted a link to detailed contact info for it.
