Kerry at Grinnell

  Kerry at Grinnell

by Sam Garchik

I got this from Neil in Grinnell, who summarizes Kerry's stop thus:

Any way, he spoke to an SRO house at Grinnell this afternoon.  Probably 400 students and 300 more from both the town and from around Iowa.  Derek Mitchell, a Grinnell senior who served as a medic in Iraq a year or two ago with his Reserve unit, spoke of his disagreement with current policy and introduced the Senator, who spoke for about 45 minutes on the need for active dissent to both protect our Constitution and extricate us from the failed policy in Iraq.  It was similar to the speech he gave at Faneuil Hall in Boston on April 22nd, which was covered by the eastern newspapers.  Despite a bad microphone, his speech was very well received by the crowd, who gave him a standing ovation at both his introduction and at his conclusion.  The Senator took about 5 questions afterward, and then spent another 1/2 hour posing for pictures and signing campaign memorabilia.

This is Eric Palmer, who also went to the Kerry event.  According to Neil, he ran against Danny Carroll 2 years ago and lost by 150 votes.  Eric is running again in 06, and needs all the help he can get.
