Iowa Visionary: Rick Sellers, President and GM of KMRY Radio in Cedar Rapids
“Locally Owned, Locally Involved”
This
Wednesday, October 5, the FCC Town Meeting in Iowa City will feature a
group of prominent Iowa panelists who are experts in one or more areas
of media as it relates to Iowa. One of these panelists will be
Rick Sellers (pictured above). Sellers is the president and
general manager of KMRY (1450) Radio in Cedar Rapids.
KMRY’s
“locally owned, locally involved” is more than just a tag line; it’s a
motto that Sellers actually lives by. In 2002, when Sellers won
the Freedom Festival Peter Teahen Award, Teahen described Sellers as
“[exemplifying a] sense of community and family.”
Teahen
added that Sellers constantly promotes the area’s positive points on
his radio station. “Thanks for your community spirit and promoting
what’s good about this community,” Teahen said.
This is
that essential local element that goes missing when corporate giants
seize control of the airways. Blog for Iowa salutes Rick Sellers.
