Schulte: Facts Show Steve King Lied About PAC Contributions

Schulte: Facts Show Steve King Lied About PAC Contributions

In
recent interviews throughout Iowa’s fifth Congressional district,
Democratic candidate for Congress Joyce Schulte has spoken out about
her opponent’s inconsistent statements as to the sources of his
campaign funds.

The
facts are these: an article in the Sioux City Journal dated February
17, 2002, states that Steve King accepts PAC money only from the
Republican party. King said he remains independent and unbiased on
issues by not accepting PAC money. In the article King is quoted as
saying, “Money gives policy if implemented prudently. If I am biased,
it’s only from the perspective of my constituents.”

However,
a quick check of online campaign finance records reveals a different
story. During 2002, King accepted nearly $180,000 worth of campaign
donations from corporate and special interest PACs, from Wal-Mart,
Tyson, sugar growers, beer distributors and many others.

Says
Schulte, “Maybe this is why Steve won’t face me in one of the many
debates we’ve been offered. I just can’t imagine that the people of the
fifth district would even think about allowing someone who can
misrepresent himself so completely to represent them in the U.S.
Congress. Steve and I don’t agree on everything but, frankly, I didn’t
anticipate this type of thing. I imagine I speak for the great majority
of western Iowans when I express my great disappointment in him.”

Schulte
said that she never has and never will accept corporate PAC
contributions and that her records are open for anyone to see at
anytime.

    Greetings to you….
In all the months that I have been running for Congress, seeing my opponent has been minimal. I've accepted every opportunity to debate, to discuss, to respond. My opponent has rejected the invitations. He refused the invitations from Iowa Public Television, Channel 4 in Sioux City and multiple groups . He even avoided parades in the District!
So I'm comfortable saying my opponent is AWOL from this campaign.
In addition he's been pushing his own personal agenda while I listen to the people of the great 5th. When I'm elected it will be my privilege to take the people's Voices into the hall of Congress and all the various meetings.
I encourage everyone to confirm me with their vote on November 2nd.
    With thanks!
    Joyce Schulte, candidate
    5th Congressional District
