The Paul Johnson Blog Takes It To Latham
Kirk Johnson
You
know, one of Paul's primary motivations for running to represent the
4th district was that Tom Latham has become an entrenched politician.
Congressman Latham, with his extraordinary war chest (over $525,000 this campaign cycle,
and it's not even over yet!) funded by special interest PACs who do NOT
hail from Iowa, has made it clear to Iowans that he doesn't need to
listen to them anymore. We have offered countless invitations to Latham
to meet with Paul, but he has refused at every chance.
In an email Tom Latham's campaign manager sent to a radio host, he explains that Iowans heard all they needed to hear during the half-hour Iowa Press TV appearance. We're not convinced. We think Iowans deserve to hear more. Latham disagrees.
On his
campaign website, Mr. Latham has this to say: “During my time serving
as your Congressman, I have prided myself on the fact that I lead by
listening to the people of Iowa.”
Hear
them out, Mr. Latham, and give them the privilege of making an informed
decision. A few slick TV ads funded by non-Iowans does no service to
citizens of the 4th district. It does not help us address the issues
that are crucial to us in 2004. What are your plans for Iraq? How will
you address our overstretched military? With a draft? What will you do
to address the millions of Americans who live without access to health
care?
Why don't you come on out and talk with Iowans at their county forums? They deserve to see you.

One of the out-of-Iowa contributors to Latham's campaign was none other than Katherine Harris,
the former SOS of Florida! Good to know the junta has marshalled
its support for Latham. Seems like Latham is just another
Republican incumbent who is either too lazy to campaign and is just
phoning it in, or else they all know that to run on their records would
mean defeat. Better to keep voters in the dark about the truth
about the GOP. Well, who needs voters, anyway. Seems like
Latham is treating this election, in the words of one Johnson staffer,
as “one big yawn…like filling out the paperwork for a two-year
extension.”
