Since last week, thousands of progressive-minded Americans have signed Democratic Way's letter calling on the FCC to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine in broadcasting.



Despite
their initial success, it will take tens of thousands of signatures to
get the FCC and big media to take notice.  If you haven’t already
signed the letter to the FCC, please do so now.

support DemocraticWay.org's campaign to pressure the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) and Congress to reinstate the Fairness
Doctrine in broadcasting.



The FCC
did away with the Fairness Doctrine during the Reagan
administration.  This measure simply required that broadcasters,
as a condition of retaining their licenses, offer balancing views on
controversial issues.  The nearly forty year-old regulation was an
important safeguard that prevented television and radio broadcasters
from always presenting the news from a single point of view.



Because
of that ill-advised FCC decision, major media conglomerates like Clear
Channel and News Corporation (Fox News) no longer provide any
meaningful platform for minority opinion or dissent.  Furthermore,
these conglomerates are becoming increasingly aggressive in using the
public airwaves to promote their own views and interests, often in
direct conflict with the public interest.



Please sign the letter
to the FCC asking that the Fairness Doctrine in broadcasting be
reinstated.  This was a very important public safeguard that is
needed more today than ever.
